Words for the Weekend

February 15

Guess what?! I’ve been in hiding the past few days–brainstorming, journaling, reading, and digging deep at what lights my heart on FIRE–but I’m emerging with {EXCITING} new column ideas for my blog. It’s time for a shake-up, y’all. :) I’m SO excited to share my ideas with you, and the first column you’ll meet is my Friday column: Words for the Weekend. Each Friday, I’ll send you off on your weekend with a quote that’s inspiring / thought-provoking / encouraging / or just plain fun. If a particular quote I share resounds with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

This quote has been sitting on my heart for a few weeks. It’s from “The Art Of Possibility” which is my favorite book I’ve read so far in 2013. Sometimes, I think we don’t share our true selves/gifts with others because we’re afraid of how they might respond. What will they think of us? You know what? I think that’s the wrong question. Have faith and get to sharing those gifts of yours! :)

This weekend, I’ll be getting in some good family time–my parents are coming to visit! Woohoo! Happy Friday! XO

My 2013 Vision

January 21

(Above: A peek at where my brand is headed in 2013. So much excitement!)

I love the exhilaration of strong beginnings and the intoxicating feeling that anything is possible. New Years is my favorite day of the year, and I usually spend it with a cup of coffee, a grateful heart, a clear head, and a journal. Goal setting is something I am usually SO EXCITED to do, that I could do cartwheels in the backyard for 30 solid minutes and still have excitement left over to set goals.

January 1, 2013, however, was not my typical New Years Day. It was grey and cold outside. I was sick. My head was totally fuzzy. I was off my game. And that description would continue to sum up the first few weeks of January.

But I’m actually really thankful that this year didn’t start perfectly. It’s easy to do the right things when life is going well–you know, like work out, eat healthy, get plenty of sleep, read the Bible, stay committed to goals, etc. But an opportunity for greatness is found in the not-so-perfect days. Will we accept it? It may not be shiny or eye-catching or tweet-worthy, but we grow when we choose to engage on a not-so-perfect day (or week, or month).

This is what I’ll be engaging this year–on good days and bad. Here’s my 2013 vision–these are the big, overarching themes that I want to focus on throughout my year.

  • Shift to film photography :)
  • Become a morning person
  • Run a half-marathon
  • Focus on friendships and family
  • Read at least one book a month
  • Travel to Paris with my husband

What’s your vision for 2013? If you’ve written a post about your goals/vision, please share it in the comments section. Are we working on any of the same goals? Sound off in the comments section!

The Newlyweds Decorate Their First Home

April 20

Not sure why it’s taken me THIS long to get excited about decorating our first place together–probably because I’ve been preoccupied with ‘OMG WE’RE MAAAAARRIIIIIED!!!!!!’ stuff–but I’m in full force home decorating mode now. Just ask Aaron. I’m intense. My style has evolved fiercely since I last decorated a living space (marriage tends to change a person, am I right?) and I’m no longer obsessed with shabby-chic, vintage inspired, paint-all-the-furniture-white look. Now I’m more into this sort of glam, preppy, mod meets cheetah print look. AND I AM UNASHAMED OF THIS.

;)

Anyway, the biggest decorating challenge in our place is the combined living, dining, kitchen. It’s literally all one room that makes up the downstairs. Second biggest challenge: we’re renting so we can’t do any type of renovation, big or small. By the way, am I the only person who gets frustrated by those “Decorating Tips for Renters” articles that suggest tearing out the kitchen cabinets, laying wood flooring, or installing ceiling beams to add architectural interest (hello new Domino magazine, talking to you). I mean, most places won’t even allow you to put a coat of paint on your walls. Tearing out kitchen cabinets is a project for a home owner, not a renter.

Sorry for the rant. :)

But the point is, I’m excited to tackle these challenges and (hopefully) come up with some realistic-yet-awesome ideas for people in a renting situation. And then blog them–YAY!! While I’m rearranging my house and brainstorming solutions, take a look at my Pinterest inspiration board–House of Glam. :)

What are your go-to decorating tricks when renting?

Happy Friday!

February 10

YAY! We’re getting close to valentine’s day–one of my favorite days! What do you have planned?

I still miss the valentine card swap that always happened in grade school. Part of me wants get crafty and make my own valentines post office box like we used to back then, and set it in the middle of the living room…you know, for the hubs to take note of. ;)

You’d better believe I made a Pinterest board for valentine’s day. Get ready to be smothered with sap!

On the note of love, I want to leave you with this thought for the weekend:

Doing the right thing will always win in the end. Doing the right thing with love at your core will give you and everyone around you wings. -Lara Casey

Happy Friday friends!

I don’t know what it is, but there is something purely magical about morning time. While I was making this Pinboard, I was feeling so inspired — I mean, just look at the images above! Barn window shutters, a quaint street cafe, sunrise through a magnificent tree, coffee on a silver platter (yes, please). It’s true, I was making this pinboard because I have a terrible time trying to get myself out of bed in the mornings. But I’m fired up by the fact that mornings signify a new beginning. A fresh start.

Anything is possible today.

Early to rise

Happy Friday!

I am feeling like the girliest girl ever, for making this Pinboard, but I don’t really care. :) It’s a little bit wedding, a little bit architecture, a little bit fashion, but everything in shades of pink…and everything beautiful.

Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book

January 13

Today I get to share one of the greatest honors I’ve received as a wedding photographer so far. Friends, my heart is so full of joy and gratitude…I found out this week that I’ve been selected to be in Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book vendor guide.

*happy dance* What an incredible way to begin 2012! Aaron took me out to several celebratory lunches–we are so, so honored.

Words cannot express just how grateful, proud, and yes, giddy I am to be a part of such an elite community of wedding professionals. And to the ladies of SMP {Abby, Annie, and Michelle} I just want to give you the biggest thank you from the warmest place in my heart. I could totally go for a group hug with y’all right now. :) I’m so excited for what’s to come.

Happy Friday!

P.S. Why yes, I DID make a Pinterest board this week! And it’s all about Europe, so you’ll definitely want to stop what you’re doing and come swoon with me. :)

Happy Friday!

January 6

As a newlywed, I’m obsessed with my wedding photos. I LOVE them. :) And I want to put them up all over our house. I found myself at a loss, though, on how to display photos throughout our home in a fresh and meaningful way. So I did what any girl would do — I made a Pinterest board to gather all the cool ideas I could find. Get excited, because I’m sharing my photo display ideas with you today!

Happy Pinning…and Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!

December 23

It’s here.

My heart is filled to the brim with joy and excitement. What a year it’s been. I look back on this year with nothing but gratitude. I’m thankful for the sweet times, the friendships grown, the opportunities, the unexpected blessings, and especially the amazing love story that swept me up this year. But I’m also thankful for the times of trial. My heart is full, just knowing that the Lord is faithful. Truly. It’s in those hardest moments that He shows up…and even provides peace, strength, and abundance. Oh friends, I pray that this Christmas you are so aware that you are secure in the arms of the everlasting God. All because Jesus came and made a way. I pray that you are filled with joy.

Friends, this is my last blog post for the year. I’ll be taking off the rest of the year to spend time with my families and friends. I’m so looking forward to the time of rest that’s ahead, but I’ll be back on January 1st! New Years is one of my very favorite days, and I have an exciting giveaway planned along with my goals for 2012. I can’t wait to share and start the New Year with you!

Sending so much love to you and yours this Christmas.

Happy Friday!

December 16

I’m so into glitter right now because of the holidays – who isn’t? – that I created a new board on Pinterest: GLITTER! I think you’ll love it.

This weekend I’ll be shooting my last 2011 wedding. Woohoo! Then, time to focus on slowing down to savor Christmas, time with my family, and time with my new family! I hope you have the loveliest of weekends, whatever you may be doing. :)
